Create, Design & Sell Jewellery through Zazzy’s New Marketplace!

Usually, the market rate you hear about any jewellery product turns out to be very different from its original price. Ever wondered why? Well that’s because on an average, a piece of jewellery is 13 times more expensive than its original price, which then goes on to add the costs of the long chain of middlemen, expensive marketing campaigns and other miscellaneous costs.

But with a medium like Zazzy coming in place, these costs are about to go down, drastically!

What is Zazzy?

For all those who aren’t aware; Amsterdam-based start-up – Zazzy is a medium that gives Jewellery designers or anyone, the leverage to design and customize their own 3D-printed jewellery. Founded in 2013, the portal is a prodigy of founders – Gert Jan Spriensma & Martijn van der Veen.

The beauty of such a portal is that; unlike earlier, one does not have to depend on whatever available in the market and can simply design something of their own by just adding a text, a brand new design, or by buying from the unique and innovative list of designs which aren’t yet famous in the market. By doing so, the makers, intentionally or unintentionally are also empowering the masses to become affordably self-dependant in terms of jewellery.

The 3D printing that you receive from Zazzy is actually not done by the company themselves, but they work with multiple printing houses across the world, which includes some of the reputed ones such as exOne and Shapeways.

Basically, all what Zazzy is doing is giving both the parties (customer & their 3D printing partners) a devoted platform with simplified tools for their requirements and is simply acting as a mediator between the two.

Till date; Zazzy has already helped over 60,000 users to design their necklaces, bracelets and rings and overall more than 200,000 designs have been created since the platform first started.

Excited?? Wondering how to go about it?

Let’s show you how it’s done?

Their functioning is pretty much self-explanatory. The users ideate, design or choose the jewellery and Zazzy 3D prints it.

And their process goes like this:

  • First, choose if you wish to either create a design from scratch or you want to pick some kind of jewellery from their collections
  • If you choose from their collections then, edit the same with what you have in mind
  • Customize your piece
  • Then choose a material from their list which includes:
    • Colourful Nylons (Classic Black, Coral Red, Hot Pink, Royal Blue & Violet Purple),
    • Gold-plated Brass,
    • Sterling Silver,
    • Bronze, and
    • Shiny Stainless Steel
  • Next, click on “Save & Preview” button to see your design.
  • For the benefit of the users further more; the makers have also included a rare feature with a rather clever preview function with every collection, which helps to visualize what your final piece will look like. This feature offers a photorealistic image of your final piece.
  • Lastly, if you are happy with what you see then, add it to your cart & follow the steps for payment & then delivery.
  • From the time you place the order, it usually takes around 3 to 4 weeks for the product to reach your place and a flat rate of €2.50 for international untracked postage is also charged.

Latest Updates

Recently, Zazzy again made it to the headlines when it announced the launch of its soon-to-come brand new marketplace – Zazzy.co. With the help of their marketplace, instead of just buying jewellery, one also gets the leverage of selling their jewellery to others as well.

The design, sale, display (listing), sharing, and buying of the jewellery still remains absolutely free of cost and additionally, there is also no limit to the number of campaigns you wish to launch.

It is kind of similar to a “Teespring” but for 3D printed jewellery, simply because, just like the custom t-shirt platform, Zazzy customers can also sell to their followers and can also use it for multiple other purposes as well.

The benefit here is that; the designers will set their own prices and will get to control their own profit margins, and what the company would do for them is that – it will provide them with near-to-immediate photorealistic previews of the designs which can be used while listing or sharing of their items with others.

The company has high hopes with their new platform and believes that it will open immense opportunities for the artists and designers who are looking to expand their portfolios, and for others like marketers, bloggers, tastemakers, etc. this will act as a much desired, organized & dedicated platform to add to their own collections of branded merchandise.

This marketplace of theirs should be ready to go live by the end of the month, and for now it has been made available, only for preview.

So far, Zazzy has received almost half a million in angel funding from a number of investors, including angels such as Ilko Bosman, Marcel Beemsterboer, Onno Bakker, Jan-Joost Rueb & Floris Rost van Tonningen; some of whom have founded companies like eBuddy, Freedom of Creation (acquired by 3D Systems), Hyves and Vakantieveilingen.

Lastly, the company is also working on plans to grab opportunities in the U.S. and may even consider relocating as well in the next six months.

Ticketing Platform Ticketbis, Further Raises Euro 3 Million

And the fund raising spree continues!

This time it’s our Spanish start-up – Ticketbis, wherein one can buy and sell after-market tickets for mostly any kind of event across Europe, Latin America, and most of Asia.

The company which started in 2009 has just completed their Series E round of fund raiser and this time is worth €3 million, bringing their total to €22.8 Million.

The major backers of this round were Active Venture Partners, along with Fabrice Grinda and Mexico-based investor José Marín and a few more!

This round and as a matter of fact this company itself, comes as a boon to the presently cursed VC market of Spain. It will only further help the nation boost its start-up environment and get in more investments.

Lately, the company had been receiving a lot complaints and poor reviews in regards to their service and hence, keeping those factors in mind; they plan to use the investment in the betterment of its quality, opening new markets for itself (more specifically Asia) and will further enhance its mobile products.

The funds will also help them gain an easy & unrestricted access to the much desired and lucrative Asian market which they intend to tap aggressively in the days to come. By doing so, they would not only out beat their competitors, but will also provide an organised Ticketing service to the Asian market, which they are in desperate need of!

Moving on; lastly, the company also seems to be growing, when it comes to numbers! Although they are shy when it comes to disclosing their exact sales figures but they were kind enough to unveil that the turnover of the first quarter of 2015 has already clocked a double of the previous year.

Let’s give you a brief about the company!

Ticketbis, as it is…

ticketbis-website

Simply put; Ticketbis is a virtual platform through which any one can buy and sell tickets for any given event happening globally. The Spanish company was founded in the year 2009 by two young enthusiasts – Ander Michelena & Jon Uriarte, and focuses on the ticket resale market, directly competing with industry giants such as Viagogo, Seatwave, Stubhub, and Getmein.

Ticketbis acts as the mediator between the seller and the buyer for the resale of tickets of any given event be it; music, sports, theatre or cultural events (the prices of which are determined by the seller) and just like every similar platform, Ticketbis too, charges a certain percentage as commission from both of the parties involved.

After the purchase; it is Ticketbis’s responsibility to deliver the tickets to the buyer and in cases if the tickets don’t reach in time for the event, then Ticketbis refunds the amount paid.

As Ticketbis acts as the mediator; it makes sure that the seller does not receive the payment until and unless the buyer has attended the event. By this way, it also ensures that the ticket is authentic and corresponds to the location that the buyer has chosen.

They offer guaranteed automatic payment for the ticket once the event has taken place. And in case of an issue with the buyer’s payment information, Ticketbis acts as the saviour and takes care of the issue, saving the seller any inconvenience.

The company has a chain of offices along with a customer service department moulded to each market set all across, which is designed to offer the utmost convenience to its users (buyer and the seller).

As of date; more than 100,000 people have already completed a sale and to add to that, more than 200,000 tickets have been sold of more than 15,000 events.

Today; after completing almost 5 years in the market – Ticketbis has become a market leader of the industry and has widely expanded its reach to 31 countries including Chile, Italy, Portugal, UK, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Russia, Paraguay, Germany, Uruguay, France, etc. and has a staffing of more than 350 strong employees.

According to Crunchbase; the company had set off with a fund raiser worth 400,000 Euros for the implementation of the project.

This was followed by their second round of funding of 1 Million Euros in 2011 from renowned tech-entrepreneurs such as Eneko Knorr, Nicholas Churches, Fabrice Grinda, Alec Oxenford and José Marín.

In 2012; Ticketbis announced a fund raiser worth 900,000 Euros which was followed by 3.5 million Euros in funding in July 2013. The company als0 raised funds worth 5 Million Euros (about $6.7 million) in 2014.

Roadie – The Story Behind the Success of Shipment Booking App

People are traveling from one place to another all the times. Many are going to the place where you want to send something. This mere notion gave birth to the US based peer-to-peer shipment booking startup Roadie.

The Concept Behind

Launched on January 27, 2015, backed by a $10 million funding, Roadie mobile app connects people who want to ship stuff with drivers who are traveling in the same direction. These drivers, or ‘roadies’, can be regular drivers or simply people from your neighborhood happen to be heading in the same direction you want your stuff to go.

In a way, concept behind this initiative is similar to backhauling in the logistics industry. That is, efficient use of the transportation network. So, besides helping people with shipping stuff and enabling drivers in earning some extra bucks, Roadie app will also be making environment a bit cleaner.

How the Roadie App Works?

Currently, only the beta version of the app is available for Android and iOS devices. The app functionality is simple and straightforward. People in need of sending something somewhere check drivers heading in the same direction, and choose one based on timing, charges, vehicle and other such factors. On the other end, roadies too have the option to check out the shipments, or ‘Gigs’ (as Roadie calls them), and then decide which one they can ship conveniently.

What separates Roadie from other similar shipment networks is its community like friendliness. There is no packaging involved. Roadies simply arrive at senders home, give them a hand in loading stuff in the vehicle, get paid and deliver the items safely on their way. And all that, in a much cheaper price.

While senders get to track their shipments in real-time through the app, roadies are entitled to several roadside assistances.

The Booming Present

For past several months, Marc Gorlin, the mastermind behind the Roadie app, had been active in recruiting roadies throughout the United States. During the launch, Roadie team claimed to have presence in all US states with over 115,000 drivers already applied to become roadies.

No wonder that the idea attracted a $10 million series A funding from investors including Eric Schmitz’s TomorrowVentures, Warren Stephens of Stephens Inc. and Square co-founder Jim McKelvey.

On February 24, 2015, restaurant chain Waffle House Inc., which is present in more than 2,100 locations in 25 US states, announced its partnership with Roadie. This has certainly given Roadie a big boost with strong physical presence in 25 US states. Additionally, Waffle House will provide roadies free food and drinks along the way.

The Future Ahead

Roadie will also be launching a route recognition feature for its app called the Roadie Route Learning, which will use the opt-in location service. However, the feature will be available to only frequent users of the app.

Founder Gorlin said about the feature, “Once we build a heat map based on initial density, we’ll slowly start to turn this feature on. We’ll get there, and when we do, it will be absolutely transformative for the shipping industry.”

Tinder Launches their Latest Tinder Plus and Announces their New CEO

Now before we begin; for all those who don’t know what ‘Tinder’ is, here’s a short brief!

The Sunset Boulevard-based Tinder – is simply an online dating app which gives you the opportunity to meet, interact and chat with new people for dating, friendship, or networking.

Tinder was launched in 2012 by Sean Rad – CEO & Co-Founder along with Jonathan Badeen and Justin Mateen at Hatch Labs, a mobile incubator backed by IAC – InterActiveCorp and Xtreme Labs.

When it first started, it was misunderstood by users and was also being used more for hook-ups or casual sex. But that scene clearly changed with time!

Tinder works in a pretty much simplified manner! All one needs to do is;

  • One can ‘Only’ login to Tinder using their Facebook account
  • After that, you need to create your profile
  • You can only choose from the pictures that are available on your Facebook
  • And it’s done! ‘Swipe Left’ if you don’t like a profile and ‘Swipe Right’ if you like one
  • If you ‘Swipe Right’ and the other person also does the same, then it’s a match and a Chat Box opens. And you can take it from there!
  • Tinder finds the locations of its users using GPS, within the chosen boundary of the user! Your profile visible to the Tinder World includes First Name, Age, Photos, and any Pages liked on Facebook.

As per Wikipedia; Tinder is available in 24 languages and has roughly 50 million users, almost globally. And as of January 2015, Tinder users swipe through 1.5 billion Tinder profiles and make more than 21 million matches per day.

Latest Updates

tinder-app-subscription-plan

So the Dating app has gone one step further and has launched their latest ‘Premium Paid Subscription’ version – Tinder Plus.

Tinder Plus, which has been under rigorous testing for the past one year, has included diverse subscription fees, which varies by age and country.

In United States, the users under 30 will have to pay $9.99/month and the subscribers above 30 will be paying $19.99/month. Whereas, the price will be as low as $2.99/month in the emerging markets, depending on the country!

Other than that; with Tinder Plus comes with some more features as well! It fills in the two most-requested elements through Passport & Rewind, apart from unlimited liking capabilities.

Rewind – Like the name itself suggests, Rewind allows its users to “take back” a swipe! So if you accidently happen to swipe left on a profile — only to lose a potential date — you can easily Rewind. But the catch is that; you can only “Rewind your last swipe”

Passport – Unlike its name; it obviously doesn’t let you travel the world physically, but it does allow you to change your location to connect with people around the world — ahead of a planned vacation or a business trip, for instance! Basically, it lets you change your location to connect with people anywhere globally.

Now with the launch of Tinder Plus, it drew more criticism than praises for a differentiated pricing system, from the reviewers.

In fact, Phone Arena blog went on to say that it “quite frustratingly.. borders on age discrimination.” & Tech blog Endgadget belittled Tinder Plus by calling it “sleazy.”

But Tinder’s spokeswoman came for the rescue of their product and boldly defended the move.

She first cleared the air by stating the obvious that; many other products offer differentiated price tiers by age, and that they have priced Tinder Plus based on an amalgamation of factors!

And went on to say that, these has been learned and after a year of testing, which unambiguously voices out that these price points are being happily adopted & accepted by different age demographics.

Now other than that; while all this was in news, another huge announcement was made by its parent company! Tinder had got its new CEO – Christopher Payne! Payne last had served eBay as their Senior Vice President of North America Marketplaces.

And this was confirmed when Payne tweeted – “It’s a match!” “I swiped right on Tinder!”

Obviously this was no shocker for the market because the parents of Tinder were looking for a more mature CEO; following the controversy that took place when Sean Rad was accused and sued by former executive Whitney Wolfe of subjecting her to “horrendously sexist, racist and otherwise inappropriate comments, emails and text messages,” before firing her.

What we have to say about Tinder Plus?

Well, accept the fact; come what may – critics will remain critics!

Now when on one side critics are crying that the company is violating price discrimination laws. We beg to differ!

Obviously every single person is different and perceives things differently; so when you have more than one type of customer; you have to have more than one type of pricing practice.

And if you decide to be a stuck-up & keep a standard price for all, you’re likely going to lose out on a ton of cash, especially when you have millions of users like Tinder. That is exactly what Tinder is doing with Tinder Plus!

Quite frankly, all this change will do is; it will make things as simple as possible for its users at a minimal price!

And as per recent stats; the youth or the masses in general are quite happy with the latest development and are quite kicked about the new features!

tinder-stats

To be precise; in a survey conducted by priceintelligently.com amongst hundreds of Tinder users, the crunched data discloses that Tinder Plus is absolutely justified!

As matters of fact – 18 to 29 year olds were willing to pay as much as close to $10, whereas, the older folks were willing to chip in a much higher range of close to $25/month.
